It starts with me and the renewal of my mind. I have to submit to a Holy process of shifting my thinking. Romans 12:2 says be transformed by the renewing of your mind. You can’t just expect to not participate. You want to walk in purpose? Your life can’t change until your MIND does. God desires that we CHOOSE to submit to being transformed. This requires a daily or even moment-by-moment choice. Transformation doesn’t start with your relationships, or your circumstances, or even your bank account – although this seems true sometimes because of the way we respond when things are going our way. Have you noticed how often we live in that place of “as soon as” – you know – ” as soon as this happens, then I will __” We teach ourselves this flawed method, and because it “feels” different for a brief time then we think we’ve proven the theory. Here’s an example I’m all too familiar with. When the weather is nicer, then I’ll get back to walking and that will make me happy. OR When my account is up to $$$$, then I’ll feel less stressed. And then the bank account reaches the goal – we DO feel less stressed – temporarily. I’m not saying we lie to ourselves or that we don’t use wisdom in planning. I am saying we get caught up in the cycle of waiting for something to happen. When all the while the key is submitting to transformation through the renewal of the mind.
Sometimes I catch myself praying for breakthrough, for increase, or even forgiveness when I’m still thinking the same way. I’m asking God to move but I’m still stuck in my old mindset. Yes, God blesses us where we are, but He doesn’t want us to stay there. He wants us to keep being transformed into His image. Which means less of me and more of Him. He wants us to renew our thinking and talk more like him instead of the old me. He wants us to live differently, choose differently trust differently. We can’t pretend to be transformed – well not for long. It’s exhausting and honestly it keeps us stuck in self defeat, shame – all that OLD LIFE stuff.
If we aren’t careful we may slip back into our OLD LIFE ways. Because it seems easier and comfy. Which is pretty much like trying to resuscitate our dead self. Think about that image! Remember, in order to be the NEW CREATION we gotta let the old one stay dead. We must choose to step into our new life in Christ everyday. It’s a God thing that we are BEING transformed and at the same time ARE transformed. 2Cor.3:18.
I can submit my day from the moment that I wake up by praying Romans 12:1. I can stay awake and aware by tuning into Holy Spirit throughout the day. I can choose to arise to challenges with obedience and staying alert to the schemes the enemy throws into my day. I can tap into my inheritance and resources that help me move forward and stay refreshed and ready to advance my way through life as a child of the most high King.
